Manav (Akshaye Khanna), the young and brilliant son of a NRI billionaire (Amrish Puri) comes to Chamba, a picturesque place in Himachal Pradesh. While his family is busy negotiating the buying of land for a power project they are planning, Manav finds himself totally bewitched by the beauty of the Himalayas and the lovely Mansi (Aishwarya Rai). Mansi is a gifted folk singer and dancer of Chamba. Manav and Mansi fall in love and commit themselves to each other. But when Mansi and her highly respected folk singer father Tarababu (Aloknath) visit Manav's family in Mumbai, they are insulted and humiliated. Disheartened, they decide to return to Chamba but a disillusioned Mansi takes a vow that she will make something of herself in Manav's world of ruthless materialism. With this in mind Mansi joins Vikrant (Anil Kapoor), a music composer and head of an Entertainment Company. Vikrant is a hard-headed, hard core businessman who nurtures Mansi's natural talent and turns her into a singing sensation. In the process of grooming her, Vikrant finds himself falling in love with Mansi. And so Mansi, Manav and Vikrant find themselves trapped in this intriguing situation. Mansi just wants to make it big and hates the very mention of the word 'Love'. Manav is totally with his body and soul committed to the word 'Love'. Vikrant hates to lose anything and this includes his 'Love' for Mansi. Subhash Ghai (Ram Lakhan, Pardes) presents an enthralling, entertaining, and dramatic love story in his 'Taal'. A musical extravaganza composed by the incomparable A. R. Rahman and shot in typical Subhash Ghai style. Taal... is the beat of passion. Taal is a wonderful musical experience and an intense love story which declares passionately: DON'T FALL IN LOVE...RISE IN LOVE!!
