As the QE2 approaches the 40th anniversary of her time in service, this documentary follows the story of this truly great liner since her inception in the mid 1960's following the withdrawal of the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth. The construction, launching, trials, maiden voyage and early turbine problems are all featured in rare archive film from the period. Interviews with naval architects, ex-captains and passengers give us an insight as to how the QE2 changed over the years and how important she was, and still is to the Cunard Line and Britain. Since going into service in 1969, Queen Elizabeth 2, has visited over 200 places around the world and carried nearly two million passengers, as well as serving her country during the Falklands crisis of 1982. The QE2's major refits in Spring 1987 when she was re engined and in December 1994 when almost all of her interiors were completely redesigned and upgraded, are portrayed in some detail.
