Man of the world turned man of the cloth - Cadfael (Derek Jacobi) is a rare hero. He is a man who has chosen to live as a monk - yet he's no saint. Once a soldier who fought in the Crusades, he has lived - and loved. Even his devotion to the Church is not enough to suppress his curiosity to quell his love of mystery. Series 4 The Holy Thief During a cataclysmic night of storms, the Holy Relics disappear, Cadfael is convinced they were removed by human hands and not saintly ones. Cadfael and sheriff Beringar find they have three mysteries to solve and unearth a wrong much greater than they expected. The Potter's Field Cadfael's ordered abbey life is challenged when Potter Rulad hastily enrols as a monk, leaving behind his wife Generys. When Genrys' remains are found a year later Cadfael finds himself hoping their new monk is not the murderer and aided by sheriff Beringar unearths a tortured tale of jealousy and infidelity. The Pilgrim of Hate A group of pilgrims are brought to Shrewsbury Abbey after they discover a rotting corpse of an old man. Imprisoning them within the Abbey the restful pilgrims are a couple of young thieves and as Cadfael narrows his search he discovers that religious zeal and murder are not incompatible.
