This programme celebrates the progress of 100 years of Olympic history from their conception in 1896. Early Olympians featured include Johnny Weissmuller, Jesse Owens and Fanny Blancas Koen.
Following through the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's we see the tragic events surrounding the 1972 terrorist attacks at Munich, seven Olympic gold medallist Mark Spitz, Great Britain's Mary Peters record-breaking gold medal in the Pentathlon, Lassi Viren in the 5000m and 10,000m for Finland, Olga Korbut's irrespressible mixture of personality and the first back-flip ever seen on the crossbeam. Even Princess Anne puts in a Royal appearance.
Moving more up-to-date we see Alan Wells, Steve Ovett, Sebastian Coe and Steve Cramm. Also included are Daley Thompson, Mary Decker, Zola Budd, Carl Lewis, Florence Griffith-Joyner, Ed Christie, Jonathan Edwards and many other Olympians representing their countries and going for gold...
